KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has been unanimously chosen as the new president of Sabah Football Association (SAFA) its general meeting conducted virtually today.
Bung was appointed as SAFA’s supreme council member and became the acting president of the association since December of last year.
He was nominated by 23 SAFA districts to lead the association.
Nominated assemblyman Datuk Suhaimi Nasir and Datuk Jelani Hamdan were appointed as vice presidents, replacing Benedict Asmat who was appointed as secretary-general with Ismail Ayub.
SAFA’s assistant secretary-general Azman Mastar said SAFA representatives from all districts have attended the virtual meeting, and choosing of the president and vice presidents is in the hope for the association to function more effectively, especially in setting the direction to develop football in Sabah.
Bung, when met by reporters here, said that he wants SAFA leaders to work as a team to develop football in the state.
“We will continue the football development programme which involves finding new talents to be included in our football team,” he said.
Last year, Bung, as the acting president of SAFA, has made a drastic change to the association, including empowering Sabah Football Club (Sabah FC) that was just formed at the time.
He said the move was taken to enable SAFA to focus on football development programmes, and Sabah FC as a new football club to be independent and compete with other football clubs in the country. –The Vibes, June 6, 2021.
