KUALA LUMPUR - Two national women’s squash players Low Wee Wern and Rachel Arnold made a winning start to join compatriot S. Sivasangari in the second round of the PSA World Championships 2020-2021 held at Chicago, United States (USA), yesterday.
Wee Wern, 30, easily passed the first round after defeating Nadia Pfister of Switzerland 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 and will face 12th seed Olivia Clyne of the USA in the next round while Rachel, 25, fought hard before winning 11-8, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9 against Farida Mohamed of Egypt, according to psaworldtour.com.
Rachel who won the women’s singles gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines is set to face Egyptian Nadine Shahin.
Meanwhile, national men’s singles Mohammad Syafiq Kamal failed to advance to the second round after losing to Borja Golan of Spain 4-11, 5-11, 3-11.
Earlier, Sivasangari and Ng Eain Yow both cruised through to the second round in their respective events.
Sivasangari defeated Sana Ibrahim of Egypt 11-9, 11-2, 11-8 while Eain Yow overpowered Adrian Waller of England, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5. - Bernama. July 16, 2021
