Jon Rahm out of Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for Covid

Tokyo - Spanish golfer Jon Rahm, the number one player in the world, will not compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games following a positive COVID-19 test result, Xinhua reported, quoting the Spanish Olympic Committee (SOP) today.

The positive result was detected in Rahm's third consecutive PCR test, mandatory for all those who had recently been to Britain, said SOP, adding that the golfer's first two PCR tests were negative.

Rahm just finished The Open on July 15-18 and left Britain as world number 1

Without enough time to find a substitute, the Spanish golf team will only have Adri Arnaus in the men's category in Tokyo.

Hours earlier, USA Golf announced that top golfer Bryson DeChambeau will also miss out on the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19.

Patrick Reed will replace DeChambeau and join Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele, to represent USA in the men's competition in Tokyo.

The first round of Tokyo Olympics golf competition in men's category will tee off on July 29. – Bernama July 25, 2021
