BUKIT KIARA – Malaysia’s number one isotonic beverage brand, 100plus, announced yesterday that they have appointed Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan as their new brand ambassadors after the Swiss Open women's doubles champions caught the brand's attention with their enormous potential and stunning performance.

The dynamic pair will be following in the footsteps of several leading national badminton players, who are currently 100plus brand ambassadors, including three-time Olympic silver medallist and former world number one, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, national singles ace, Lee Zii Jia, as well as All-England champions and Tokyo Olympic bronze medallists, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

“Pearly and Thinaah are an exciting pair. They have tremendous potential and if they continue in this trajectory, they will soon be taking their place amongst the world’s leading partnerships. We have followed them for a few years and are impressed with their progress,” F&N Beverages marketing head, Leong Wai Yin said yesterday.

“It was an easy decision to sign Pearly and Thinaah as 100plus brand ambassadors.”

Leong revealed that Pearly and Thinaah, who are currently ranked 19th by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), have signed a two-year sponsorship deal with 100plus.

Pearly, 21 and Thinaah, 23, started their partnership in 2019 and almost immediately began to shine, bagging their first title at the Malaysian International Series in June. More victories followed at the Bangladesh and India International Challenges respectively.

Had it not been for the pandemic, the pair may have wrested several more titles, choosing to work hard and focus on their training for months when competitions were cancelled. Their efforts paid off when the unseeded pair, outplayed their opponents and made history as the first Malaysians to win a women’s title at the Swiss Open.

“They have a bright future. We look forward to watching them develop into a leading doubles pair and start winning more titles,” Leong added.

Pearly explained that the support of a major brand like 100plus, which has always supported the nation’s top players, was a huge boost to their confidence.

“100plus is synonymous with badminton in our country and we are encouraged by the confidence they have in us. They have supported players, who have all gone on to win major titles, including medals at the Olympics. We will continue to work hard and aim for more success on the world stage.”

As announced by BAM on Saturday, the pair's next major assignments will be the Sudirman Cup in Finland (from September 26 to October 3) and the Uber Cup in Denmark (from October 9 to 17).

As part of their sponsorship, Pearly and Thinaah will be provided 100plus during their training and competitions so the pair can re-energise and rehydrate with its special non-carbonated formulation as well as replenish lost fluids and electrolytes with the addition of vitamins B3, B6 and B12.

Aside from supporting leading national badminton players, 100plus currently sponsors the Malaysian Badminton Association (BAM), Malaysian Football Association (FAM), the Malaysian Football League (MFL) as well as the nation’s number one football team, Johor Darul Ta’zim FC.

100plus is also the official isotonic beverage and recommended drink of the National Sports Council (NSC). – The Vibes, September 15, 2021
