APPARENTLY there is a revolt against the captaincy of Virat Kohli among several India players.
They have been irked by the attitude of the captain which came to a boil during the recent tour of England and one senior player has reportedly complained to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Kohli 's form has been patchy of late for his country and club at the Indian Premier League. He has not scored a century for the country in almost two years in all formats of cricket.
His last century came against Bangladesh in November 2019.
This could possibly be the reason why Kohli announced he would be stepping down as captain in the T20 format after the World Cup later this year that surprised many.
The fact is Kohli's captaincy has come under scrutiny as he has yet to lead Team India to success at an ICC competition and that BCCI too are unhappy with this lack of success.
It has come to light that the aggrieved player could well be Ravichandran Ashwin who Kohli had accused of showing "no intent" in the inaugural World Test Championship final against New Zealand.
Though it has yet to be confirmed that it is indeed Ashwin, the player had been frozen out throughout the England series.
Coach Ravi Shastri had wanted to play Ashwin in the Fourth Test but apparently Kohli was not on the same page. - Agencies, October 1, 2021
