KUALA LUMPUR – National shuttler Lee Zii Jia booked himself a spot in the semi-finals of Hylo Open in Germany after he defeated Thai Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-13, 22-20 earlier today.

Zii Jia, who is second seeded, will go against either third seed Ng Ka Long from Hong Kong or sixth seed Srikanth Kidambi of India, pending their quarter-finals match early tomorrow morning Malaysian time.

The Kedahan is now the highest seeded player remaining in the tournament after top seed Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan lost in the first round to Singaporean Loh Kean Yew.

Zii Jia marched into the quarterfinals after he ended Irish player's journey, Nhat Nguyen, at the second round of the tournament yesterday.

However, it was not plain sailing for Zii Jia as Nguyen gave a great battle before the Malaysian badminton star took the first set, 22-20.

Kantaphon had earlier saw off Indian player, Sourabh Verma, 21-12, 21-18 in the second round. – The Vibes, November 5, 2021
