KUALA LUMPUR − National squash player Ng Eain Yow has kept his promise by ending Malaysia’s decade-long drought at the Asian Individual Championships 2021 in Islamabad, Pakistan, today.

The top seeded Eain Yow defeated world number 49 Yip Tsz Fung of Hong Kong 11-6, 13-11, 11-9 in 34 minutes to be crowned men’s champion.

This is also Eain Yow’s first-ever title in the tournament after helping Malaysia clinch the Asian Team Championships earlier this month.

2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan was the last Malaysian to win the men’s title in 2011.

Meanwhile, world number 39 Rachel Arnold failed to take home the women’s title for Malaysia as she went down to Tong Tsz Wing, also from Hong Kong, 8-11, 11-13, 5-11.

Squash queen and nine-time champion Datuk Nicol Ann David was the last national women’s player to win the tournament in 2015. – Bernama, December 19, 2021
