KUALA LUMPUR − Malaysian sports media practitioners today launched the Sportswear Relief Mission, an initiative to help people in flood-hit states.
The chairman of the mission, Datuk Jasni Shafie said its purpose was to help flood victims, especially children and youths as well as school children, who were in need.
“The objective of this mission (organised) by a group of sports media practitioners is to collect used and new sportswear from the public and sports activists, including former athletes, officials and sports teams, from across the country.
“The aid will be delivered once the flood situation is better − this mission is launched to collect items (clothes and sports paraphernalia) that are probably most needed when the situation goes back to normal,” he said in a statement.
He said all contributions will be channelled to people in the states hit by floods by participants of the mission with assistance from non-governmental organisations.
Meanwhile, Jasni, who is also the former president of the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia, urged all Malaysians, sports fans and activists to participate in channelling donations to help those affected by the floods.
He added that the public can make donations at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia parking area in Bukit Kiara as well as send donations to the location by post or courier.
