KUALA LUMPUR – Two national athletes bagged silver medals in men’s artistic gymnastics after they put on a dazzling performance at the Egyptian Pharaohs Cup 2021 last Sunday.
Ng Chun Chen and Shahrul Aimy Kamarul won the medals in the parallel bars and vault events respectively in the three-day meet, which kicked off on December 17.
National men’s artistic gymnastics coach Ng Shu Liang told Bernama that he was not surprised when his charges returned home with their medals in tow.
“They won because they are good. Actually, I have trained them since they were ten years old but along the way, they followed other coaches and now, they are being trained by me again,” he said when contacted.
Shu Liang said that the three gymnasts, who went to Egypt, are currently in home quarantine until December 27 and would resume training early next year.
“We will have a break − maybe for a few days for everyone to go back home and spend some time with their families – and will, most probably, start training next year,” he added.
Asked on their mission for next year, Shu Liang informed Bernama that they were looking forward to focusing on four main events − the Malaysia Games (Sukma), SEA Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. – Bernama, December 23, 2021
