KUALA LUMPUR - The presence of Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Cheah Liek Hou has brought cheer to flood victims around Hulu Langat and Bukit Tadom in Selangor today.

Despite his busy schedule, the 33-year-old national shuttler spent some time presenting donations to the local community affected by the natural disaster.

According to a post on his Facebook page, among the items donated were dried food, blankets and electrical goods.

Liek Hou, who is also a six-time world champion, said he could not imagine the sadness and frustration of residents in Hulu Langat and Bukit Tadom after witnessing the impact of the floods on roads, bridges, houses, shoplots and vehicles along the way to the two areas.

“Hopefully, a little contribution from me can help ease their burden. Thank you to all the friends who contributed and assisted in all aspects. May the flood situation recovers as soon as possible,” he wrote.

Last September, Liek Hou won gold in the SU5 (physical impairment) category after defeating Dheva Anrimusthi of Indonesia in the final to create history by becoming the first Paralympic badminton men’s singles champion. – Bernama, December 26, 2021
