KUALA LUMPUR − The newly formed Malaysian Sepaktakraw Confederation (MSC) is prepared to be dissolved if the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (Astaf) does not recognise it as the country’s main body for the sport, said MSC president Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

He said the objective of establishing MSC was to ensure the survival of the country’s sepaktakraw at the international level after the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) was no longer accepted by the Asian parent body.

“Astaf will determine the fate of MSC or PSM. The six of us (affiliate members) have agreed that if Astaf accepts PSM, we will dissolve. We don’t want to fight to form an association. But as Astaf made a decision with the PJS (Sports Commissioner) not to accept PSM, we then started work on the establishment of MSC.

“If Astaf recognises us, then just like what we intend to do (if Astaf recognises PSM), they (PSM) must also dissolve. If they want to remain, what will happen?” he told a press conference after MSC’s inaugural general meeting here today.

In May last year, Astaf removed PSM as its member for breach of conduct after finding its former president Datuk Seri Ahmad Ismail − in his capacity as Astaf deputy president − guilty of sending letters to the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Olympic Committee on February 24 last year.

At the MSC general meeting, Suhaili, who is also the Federal Territory of Labuan Sepaktakraw Association president, was elected to the number one seat.

Federal Territory of Putrajaya Sepaktakraw Association president Datuk Seri Khairudin Es Abd Samad and Selangor Sepaktakraw Association president Datuk Markiman Kobiran were unanimously elected as first deputy president and second deputy president respectively.

Datuk Ismail Abg Saufi, Datuk Paduka Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah and Syed Araniri Syed Ahmad were elected as vice-presidents while the fourth vice-president post will be filled by a representative from Sabah.

While urging former players to champion the fate of sepaktakraw in the country, Suhaili said MSC was ready to recruit professionals for leadership and management positions in the parent body. – Bernama, February 20, 2022
