KUALA LUMPUR – National hockey squad striker Faizal Saari is all set for a packed international calendar this year.

Among the tasks awaiting the Speedy Tigers are the Asian Cup (dates and venue yet to be determined), the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in July, the Hangzhou Asian Games, China (September) and the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh (November).

The Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) player said that although at the age of 31 the tight schedule might be a big challenge for him, his experience and skills were pluses for him to continue to provide commendable quality of play.

“I think the 2022 schedule will be the busiest for me because we have a lot of tournaments. However, as a professional player, I have to know how to adapt and show the desired performance.

“Personally, if possible, I want to play in all the tournaments, but this is up to the coach,” he told Bernama.

On Friday, Faizal emerged as the hero for THT when he contributed two goals in their 3-2 Charity Cup victory against Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium. The Charity Cup is the curtain-raiser for the Malaysian Hockey League (LHM) 2022. – Bernama, February 21, 2022
