KUALA LUMPUR – In an effort to elevate Malaysian football to greater heights, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) has appointed the Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG) as its official airline partner.
Through the partnership, Malaysia Airlines will provide air travel for delegates competing in domestic professional tournaments under MFL, which includes the Super League, Premier League, Malaysia Cup, FA Cup and Sumbangsih Cup.
The airline will also partner with MFL in support of its activities, including local and international conferences and football clinics.
The collaboration will also incorporate joint campaigns, branding and events with other airlines under MAG’s network such as Firefly, MASwings, MHholidays and Enrich.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties was officiated by MFL chief executive officer Stuart Ramalingam and Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) group chief marketing and customer experience officer Lau Yin May.
Also present at the official signing were MFL president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan and MAG chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail.
Speaking at the ceremony, Stuart says the partnership symbolises the brands coming together to champion homegrown sporting talent.
“With the new season and fixtures scheduled for the year, members of the Malaysian football fraternity and fans who seek to travel across the country can take advantage of Malaysia Airlines’ increased frequencies, especially from Sabah and Sarawak.
“This will provide a much-needed boost to the football fraternity and clubs after the cancellation of several pre-season matches this year due to Covid-19 related issues,” he said.
Also speaking at the signing was Captain Izham, who says Malaysia Airlines’ increased frequency will be beneficial for fans, especially from East Malaysia, who can now enjoy matches held in the peninsular and vice versa.
“I am certain that this symbiotic relationship between Malaysia Airlines and MFL will be a boon to football enthusiasts across the nation.
“As the official airline for MFL and its celebrated professional competitions, Malaysia Airlines commits to providing seamless connectivity and safe travel for members of the MFL and football fans alike,” he said.
The signing follows MAB’s recent partnerships with the Football Association of Malaysia and Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club. – The Vibes, March 2, 2022.
