KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s singles shuttler S. Kisona failed to make it into the semi-finals of the Swiss Open after losing to world number 30 Supanida Katethong of Thailand 11-21, 12-21.

At the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel today, Kisona struggled to get ahead of the Thai shuttler in the first set.

The second set seemed hopeful for the Malaysian shuttler, however Katethong maintained her control of the game and closed it out.

In the round of 16 yesterday, 64th-seed Kisona came from behind to defeat former world number one Saina Nehwal of India 17-21, 21-13, 21-13.

At the same time, women’s doubles pair Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing also lost against German duo Linda Efler-Isabel Lohau 18-21, 18-21.

Meanwhile, rising men’s shuttler Ng Tze Yong lost against eighth-seed Indonesian player Jonatan Christie 21-18, 13-21, 12-21, bringing his campaign to an end last night.

Ng previously withdrew from the German Open two weeks ago due to a minor injury, and singles coach director Wong Choong Hann said they would shift their focus to prepare for the Swiss Open.

Later, German Open men’s doubles champion Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin face Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin for their spot in the semi-finals tomorrow, while Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi meet Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Mixed doubles duo Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing will meet Danish pair Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje while Goh Soon Huat-Lai Shevon Jemie will play against France’s William Villeger-Anne Tran.

Women’s doubles team Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien go up against India’s Ashwini Ponnappa-Reddy N. Sikki. – The Vibes, March 25, 2022.
