KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia adds to its gold medal tally as diving pair Ong Ker Ying-Ng Yan Yee emerged as winners in the women’s synchronised 3m springboard event today at the 2022 Hanoi SEA Games.

Giving Malaysia its fourth gold medal, the pair scored a total of 276.30 from five rounds with the breakdown being 47.40, 48.00, 61.20, 65.70, 54.00 today at the My Dinh Aquatics Centre.

Hosts Vietnam claimed the silver medal after Mai Hong Hanh-Ngo Phuong Mai scored a total of 237.57 points.

The bronze medal was won by Ashlee Tan-Fong Kay Yian from Singapore who scored 229.41.

Speaking to the media after, the more experienced of the pair Yan Yee said she is proud of 18-year-old Ker Ying.

“This is my first time guiding a junior at a competition as a senior. I am proud to give her (Ker Ying) and Malaysia another gold medal.

“Even though the journey of our partnership was not the smoothest, I am happy that we made it all the way here. I am very proud of her and myself,” said Yan Yee.

Meanwhile, Ker Ying said she felt nervous as this was her first SEA Games.

“I am happy we won even though some dives were not as good as the others.

“The gold medal was worth the journey both of us as partners went through,” she said.

Earlier today, seasoned diver Ooi Tze Liang won in the men’s individual 1m springboard event, while youngster Betrand Rodhict Anak Lises won bronze. – The Vibes, May 9, 2022
