KUALA LUMPUR – National footballer and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) defender Syahmi Safari has been released from the Harimau Malaya centralised training camp to undergo a surgery on sinusitis.

Syahmi’s surgery is scheduled to take place on June 2.

In a statement, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said the decision was made after the 24-year-old defender visited the hospital this morning for his sinus problem worsened.

“FAM officials and medical team have always prioritised the health and safety of its players and have agreed to release Syahmi from the centralised training camp in order to recover well.”

This means Syahmi will not be able to compete in the final round of the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers beginning on June 8 until 14.

“With Syahmi’s absence, the remaining 29 players will continue the centralised training camp for the Tier 1 International Match against Hong Kong tomorrow and there will be no new replacement for now,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, JDT wished their defender a quick recovery from his upcoming surgery on their social media page.

“Syahmi will return from national team duty and be admitted to the hospital tomorrow to prepare for surgery.

“We wish Syahmi a speedy recovery.”

After the Hong Kong match, Harimau Malaya will play Turkmenistan on June 8, followed by Bahrain on June 11, and Bangladesh on June 14 in Group E of the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers. – The Vibes, May 31, 2022
