KUALA TERENGGANU – The state government today awarded 26 Terengganu-born athletes with incentives totalling RM86,000 for their achievements at the recently concluded SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The incentives were given out through the Victory Prize Scheme (SHAKE), with the state granting RM4,000 (gold medal), RM3,000 (silver) and RM2,000 (bronze) for individual wins, while athletes for team events received RM2,500 (gold), RM2,000 (silver) and RM1,500 (bronze).
According to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, a total of 26 out of 57 Terengganu-born athletes selected to represent Malaysia in Hanoi brought back medals.
“This is a token of appreciation for the efforts of the athletes who worked hard to bring glory for the country in the regional games,” he said during the SHAKE presentation and the Malaysian Games (Sukma) chef-de-mission appointment ceremony at Wisma Darul Iman here.
National cyclist Nur Aisyah Mohd Zubir was the biggest winner of the day as she received RM8,000 for winning two silver medals and a bronze in Hanoi.
“I hope that this token of appreciation would help in motivating the athletes further and boost their performance in future competitions and events.
“Our athletes will compete in the Sukma Games in September as they will be looking to defend their gold medal, which was won in the 2018 edition in Perak.
“God willing, the state will be able to provide incentives for athletes who bring back medals from the Sukma Games,” he added. – Bernama, June 8, 2022
