BUKIT JALIL – The Youth and Sports Ministry has called on corporate organisations to come forward and support the national sports industry.

Its minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that instead of sports teams only relying on government support, private organisations should also come together to help contribute to the success of Malaysian sports.

Faizal was commenting following the success of the national indoor hockey team in winning the Men’s Indoor Hockey Asia Cup after defeating favourites Iran in the final in Bangkok.

“We are proud of our national indoor hockey team’s achievement. We can see that they have steadily improved their performance. Winning the Asian Indoor Cup is big.

“When our national team competes at a higher level, we (the government) always find ways to help them in terms of funding, but it would be great if corporate companies can also contribute some funding for them to do better,” Faizal said.

It was reported earlier that Malaysia Hockey Confederation president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and Faizal will be meeting to further discuss additional funds.

Subahan said the additional funding will be helpful for the national team’s preparations for the Asian Games and World Cup. – The Vibes, August 17, 2022
