KUALA LUMPUR – This year’s Malaysian Games (Sukma) will receive RM5 million worth of sponsorships from 14 corporate companies.

The sponsors include big players corporations such as Pace sportswear brand, Nestle Products Sdn Bhd, Bergamot Sdn Bhd and Acer Malaysia.

Other sponsors include Mara Liner Sdn Bhd, TikTok Malaysia, TudungPeople, Mal-Tel Communications Sdn Bhd, F&N Holdings Bhd, Spritzer Bhd, Asia Pacific Sports Sdn Bhd, FFM Bhd, Proxima Technologies Pte Ltd, and SkyWorld Development Sdn Bhd.

Speaking at the sponsorship ceremony at the Bukit Jalil Golf Resort today, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Faizal Azumu said that some of the sponsorships will be in the form of monetary support, while the rest will be in kind.

He said the support from the corporate companies will be a great help for the Games, hosted by the National Sports Council (NSC).

“The ministry and the NSC would not be able to bear the cost of organising the Sukma without the help of the corporate companies,” he said.

Initially scheduled to take place in Johor, the respective Games will now be held in Kuala Lumpur from September 16 to September 24.

Meanwhile, Faizal praised our weightlifting athletes for their impressive achievements at recent SEA Games and Commonwealth games.

“They made the country proud. The NSC will consider for the sport to be listed as our core sport in the near future, but our athletes should keep the momentum going to ensure it happens,” said Faizal.

Malaysia won two gold medals and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and took home a silver medal and three bronze medals at the SEA Games in Hanoi this year.

This year’s edition saw some events in diving being called off due to poor participation from the states.

These events include the 1m springboard, 3m springboard, 10m platform, 3m synchronised springboard and 10m synchronised platform.

However, the NSC decided to reinstate events such as the pole vault, discus, shot putt, triple jump, and hammer throw from the track & field after further discussions with the participating states. Initially, it was scrapped due to a lack of participation. – The Vibes, September 2, 2022
