KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and Badminton Association of Thailand signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today aimed at further propelling the sport here to greater heights.
The two-year agreement is important for the sport’s development in Malaysia as the country prepares for the ultimate objective of sealing the country’s first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and winning the Thomas Cup the same year, BAM said in a statement.
BAM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria, who signed for Malaysia, said the strategic alliance would provide the platform for cooperation in various aspects, from sports science and training of athletes, coaches and officials, to forging stronger relations.
“We will promote exchange and forge even closer relations through the signing of this historic MoU.
“Through this win-win partnership, we will have an even greater comprehensive and strategic relationship,” Norza said in the statement.
Signing for BAT was its president Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, who is also the Badminton World Federation deputy president and International Olympic Committee member.
The signing ceremony took place at the Arnoma Grand Hotel, Bangkok.
Norza was also confident that the partnership would be beneficial to both associations, as they have similar ambitions of being dominant forces in the badminton world. – The Vibes, September 11, 2022
