KUALA LUMPUR – The Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia (WTM) do not have to worry about the newly proposed amendment by Tennis Malaysia (TM) to its constitution regarding tennis related activities.

TM president Mirzan Mahathir has assured that the amendment is to ensure the governance of all tennis-related activities in a better and more organised way in the country.

He said, the proposal to amend the constitution of TM, formerly known as Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia, is because the sport is not only about traditional tennis anymore, but evolving in new formats.

“We have had wheelchair tennis for a long time now. In fact, their ranking is higher than ours.

“We also have soft tennis, beach tennis and, what is rapidly gaining popularity now, paddle tennis.

“We have a good relationship with the ITF (International Tennis Federation) and ITF is currently channelling grants to WTM through us.

“WTM have done a great job over the years, so we are not looking to interfere with their work, they have nothing to worry about,” he said at a press conference.

The proposal was made during TM’s annual general meeting (AGM) last week by the Negri Sembilan Lawn Tennis Association and it will be deliberated in next year’s AGM. – Bernama, October 3, 2022
