RAUB – UAE Team Emirates’ Juan Sebastian Molano emerged triumphant in the longest route of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) – from Kuala Klawang to Raub across a distance of 178.9km – as he paddled to win the tournament’s Stage 2 sprinters’ classification today.

ARA Pro Racing Sunshine’s Craig Wiggins came in second, while Gleb Syritsa of Astana Qazaqstan Team claimed the third spot.

“Thanks to my team I managed to come this far. It was a good day,” Molano, a 27-year-old Colombian, told reporters after the race.

However, Syritsa still came out on top in the general classification (yellow jersey) following his win at Stage 1 on the Kuala Pilah-Kuala Lumpur route yesterday which earned him the highest points so far.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG) sprinter Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff snatched the red jersey from fellow teammate Jambaljamts Sainbayar for the climbers’ classification (King of Mountain) today.

“I have been trying to get the red jersey for the King of Mountain category yesterday but I could not because I made too many mistakes.

“With today’s performance, I hope to be able to maintain my momentum and retain my red jersey until the end of LTdL,” said the 2021 SEA Games gold medallist.

Sainbayar, who won the climbers’ classification yesterday at Stage 1’s Kuala Pilah-Kuala Lumpur race, came in second in the category today.

Thailand Continental’s Peerapol Chawchiangkwang came in third.

For the record, Aiman is the first and only Malaysian so far to ever win the LTdL red jersey following his win in the 2020 edition.

Stage 3 tomorrow will see riders race through the 123.7km-route from Putrajaya to Genting Highlands. – The Vibes, October 12, 2022
