KUALA LUMPUR – National badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s immortal likeness in wax is now being featured at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in Singapore.
The wax figure of the former world number one shuttler is the latest addition to the walk of fame at the museum.
With a racquet in one hand, the wax statue of Chong Wei was unveiled today, donning a blue singlet, blue shorts, and a pair of lime green shoes.
The outfit is the actual jersey Chong Wei wore during the 2016 Rio Olympics where he won his third and final Olympic silver medal.
“This makes me extremely happy and proud, as I am sure it will make many Malaysians proud as well,” Chong Wei said during the unveiling ceremony.
In 2020, Chong Wei was the first Malaysian athlete to be featured at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong.
In a statement, Madame Tussauds Singapore said Chong Wei was put through a six-hour “sitting” in 2019 as the team meticulously took over 200 measurements of the five-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
“Madame Tussauds Singapore is excited to debut Lee’s wax figure for fans in Southeast Asia before it makes its way back to its permanent residence in Hong Kong,” they said. – The Vibes, October 13, 2022
