AFC Cup Final: KL City confident of bringing home AFC Cup

KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City) are motivated to give their best performance in tomorrow’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup final against Oman’s Al Seeb in the final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

KL City head coach Bojan Hodak said that his players are all excited and ready to give their best against the Middle Eastern club.

“To be honest, this whole week has been easy for me. I don’t have to think about motivation with the team. They are all pumped up and ready to go,” he said at the pre-match press conference today.

KL City will try to emulate their rivals Johor Darul Ta’zim’s 2015 success when the Southern Tigers became the first Malaysian club to win the AFC Cup.

However, Hodak did not discredit Al Seeb as a strong opponent.

“Oman’s football ranking is better than Malaysia’s. We may have the advantage of playing on home ground, but I still think that they are the favourites.

“This is football where in 90 minutes, anything is possible. What is important is that we will try to minimise mistakes in the match,” he said, adding that the club’s success in reaching the final was like a dream come true as they had only aimed to pass the group stage.

The 51-year-old Croatian also hoped the national stadium will be filled with Malaysian football fans as he believes the fans and the environment at the stadium will play a crucial role in KL City’s aim to win the match.

Meanwhile, KL City captain Paulo Josue said that the current squad is strong enough to bring home the cup as he is confident in his teammates’ form and performance.

“I am proud and glad to be here playing with KL City FC. We are all very excited to be playing in the final and I promise that we will give our 100%,” the 33-year-old Brazilian added. – The Vibes, October 21, 2022
