PUTRAJAYA – Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he is happy and satisfied with the Malaysian league teams’ compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Malaysia Football League (MFL) since the league resumed on Aug 28.

He said this was based on the reports he received as well as from his own observation when he attended the Super League game between Kedah and Sabah at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras yesterday.

“I hope teams will continue to comply with the SOP because if this continues, we can move on to the next phase,” he said in a statement issued by the MFL.

The next phase is to allow fans to enter the stadium to watch the game, which the government has yet to give a green light since the league resumed.

Liga Malaysia was suspended on March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), with the government only allows matches to be held behind closed doors.

Thus far, 48 Super League and Premier League matches have been held under strict SOP compliance.

Teams in both the leagues still have three matches to go, after which the Malaysia Cup will kick off on Oct 17. – Football Tribe, September 23, 2020
