KUALA LUMPUR – German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund (BVB) will take on newly-crowned Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) in an international club friendly match on November 28 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
JDT owner Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said the German side, who are currently fourth in the Bundesliga will be making a stop in Johor as part of their BVB Asia Tour 2022.
“JDT and the German giants have had an excellent relationship dating back to the academy collaboration and the friendly we had at the Larkin Stadium in 2015.
“It will be an honour to host a reputable team such as BVB again, and this time at our new home,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, BVB director of internationalisation and commercial partnerships said the club is excited and happy to finally be back in Johor Baru and face long-term friends from JDT.
“Our team is especially looking forward to play in JDT’s state-of-the-art sporting venue and to finally connect with our Malaysian fans and supporters again.”
At the same time BVB Asia Pacific managing director Suresh Letchmanan said the team highly values their relationship with JDT and the crown prince and is incredibly grateful to be able to make the match happen as part of their BVB Asia Tour 2022.
“We are thrilled to play a revival of our last match from 2015 and are anticipating another unforgettable experience,” he said.
The last time the two clubs met in a friendly in 2015, BVB defeated the Southern Tigers 6-1.
Before the 2015 friendly match, both clubs agreed to work together for Johor’s football development where coaches from JDT will be sent to Germany and likewise to exchange ideas and knowledge. – The Vibes, November 1, 2022.
