KUALA LUMPUR – Despite conceding a goal against Terengganu last night, Selangor enters the final of the Malaysia Cup with the aggregate score being 3-2 and will now face Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).
But the second leg of the semi-finals at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Terengganu did not end in peace as the visiting Red Giants’ team bus was pelted by stones and other objects upon leaving the stadium.

In another video posted online, Terengganu fans can be seen blocking the exit from the stands, not allowing Selangor fans to leave the stadium.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said the incident began when around 300 Terengganu supporters gathered at Gate C of the stadium, right in the path of exiting Selangor fans.
“While the Selangor team bus was on its way back to the hotel accompanied by police, it was suddenly attacked by stones and hard objects which damaged the bus and windows,” he said in a statement.
He said authorities were successful in apprehending a Malay supporter from Manir, Kuala Terengganu that was caught in the act. Selangor management has lodged a police report and the case will be investigated under the Penal Code Section 427 (mischief).
“After 2am, all the Selangor fan buses were escorted by police and had entered the LPT2 highway.
“The police want to remind supporters to not use the sports arena as a platform to disturb peace. The police will not hesitate to take action on those who are involved.
“For now, the police have also instructed special units to identify other suspects. We will not let these individuals tarnish the good name of Terengganu supporters and the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, Terengganu FC had apologised for the incident, saying that the actions of a few did not represent the team’s overall supporters.
“The club management condemns the actions of last night. This has also tarnished the image of the club and other Terengganu supporters who were there to support the team.
“The club would also like to apologise to Selangor FC for the incident that has happened and hopes that it will not happen again in the future.
“Terengganu supporters have shown great commitment and discipline in giving support, indeed the few that have done with mess do not represent and portray the overall image and personality of the team’s supporters,” they said in a statement.
During the match, the only goal came from Turtles’ Kipre Tchetche in the 35th minute. The Ivorian found the net again in the 55th minute, but offside was called and the goal disallowed.
The first leg match, which saw Selangor win 3-1, gave them the advantage needed to see them chase their 34th title of the Malaysia Cup at the finals where they take on last year’s runners-up JDT on November 26. – The Vibes, November 22, 2022
