PETALING JAYA – The patron of the Sports Law Association of Malaysia (SLAM), Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, has suggested the government open unutilised sports facilities for public use.
The former Olympic Council of Malaysia president said allowing the public to use facilities and halls in schools or those owned by the government would greatly help promote sports development in the country.
“After the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a lot of changes in terms of funding towards sports events in Malaysia, especially the facilities. We hope the government will help.
“It doesn’t have to be the money, but (it is about) giving or allowing people to use the facilities and resources that are available, for example empty stadiums and halls can be utilised for sport events,” he said after delivering his keynote address at the SLAM Sports Law and Arbitration Conference 2022 here, today.
Tunku Imran said the government has provided the best facilities for athletes, but the facilities in schools are still not fully available for the public.
“So all the government has to do is allow the school fields to be used by certain groups that are attached to the school, like parents, alumni, and the local community,” he said. – Bernama, November 24, 2022
