ALOR STAR – Kedah Darul Aman FC today announced Mohd Nafuzi Mohd Zain as its new head coach for two years starting in the 2023 season.

The appointment of the former Terengganu FC coach was officially announced by Kedah majority owner Tan Sri Mohd Daud Bakar at the signing ceremony between the club’s chief executive officer Khamal Idris Ali and Nafuzi.

Daud said he was confident Nafuzi could shoulder the responsibility of managing Kedah well, based on his experience and impressive record of building a successful football team.

“We put our full trust in him to select the players and find new talents that can be absorbed into the team. So I urge Kedah fans to give Nafuzi time to build a formidable and respected team.

“The total number of players for next season is 25 and their names will only be announced later. Seventeen players from the 2022 season have not yet been offered new contracts for the new season,” he said here today.

Meanwhile, Nafuzi, who played with for Kedah from 2007 to 2009, said he was grateful to the club’s top management for the faith and opportunity granted to guide the Sang Kenari squad.

“It is not easy to land this opportunity to lead Kedah, after discussions with the management, I am indeed yearning and excited to move to the ‘Bumi Jelapang Padi’ (rice bowl of the country) and I pledge my best for the team’s success.

“My plan is to groom a new breed of Kedah youngsters because it is well known that the club has a fabulous line-up of old and new players that are much feared. As for the next season’s line-up, I will make the selection taking into account important aspects to ensure that Kedah grow stronger,” he said.

Earlier, Daud witnessed the signing ceremony of Kedah head coach’s contract and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the club, represented by Khamal Idris, and Koperasi Anak Kedah Bhd (KAKB) represented by its chairman Muhammad Edi Soffi Ramli.
