KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim’s remarks on corruption within the old national sports associations (NSA) attracted further attention from the fraternity, most recently the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA).
In a statement, its president Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali said that MCA was the first national sporting association to sign a letter of undertaking with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
It included all national men and women players, coaches, administrators, and elected officials.
“As a national body, we are 98% self-funded with sponsorship, broadcast rights and tournament revenues generated from local and international sources,” read the statement.
“These resources are then shared with the state cricket associations.
“For many years, MCA has prided itself on playing with a straight bat no matter how sticky the wicket may be.
“We set the best example based on the rules for all to see and (by) not taking shortcuts, which allowed us to achieve results both on and off the field.”
Ranked second in the world, MCA added that its success was also achieved through expanded development initiatives, governance, and compliance, benchmarked and adjudicated by the international governing body.
Adam made the remarks yesterday at his first press conference after officially reporting for duty at the Youth and Sports Ministry building.
NSAs such as the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Malaysia National Cycling Federation, Malaysia Hockey Confederation, and Malaysian Karate Federation slammed the Hang Tuah Jaya MP for making a sweeping statement.
They said it was unfair as he presented no facts or evidence. – The Vibes, December 13, 2022
