KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Doping Agency (Adamas) will act against two weightlifting medallists at the 2022 Malaysia Games after they were confirmed positive for the banned substance “anabolic androgenic steroid”.
According to a statement by the Youth and Sports Ministry, Adamas will take further action based on its Anti-Doping Rules 2021 and the International Standard for Results Management.
“Adamas has received results confirmation from the Anti-Doping Lab Qatar for the analysis of two samples of Sukma 2022 weightlifters that were found positive or Adverse Analytical Finding,” read the statement.
“The laboratory has carried out follow-up analysis following the reading of the athlete’s steroid profile, which was found to be abnormal.
“Through the follow-up analysis, which is Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry, the source of testosterone was identified through exogenous hormone administration, which is the use of various hormones or analogues (substances that work the same) either in medical treatment, or as substances that improve performance.”
The World Anti-Doping Agency also confirmed the discovery of prohibited substances in the two samples in question, which are classified as S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids.
Earlier, Malaysia Weightlifting Federation president Datuk Ayub Rahmat confirmed that Adamas has also sent a letter to the two athletes, whereby they have 14 days to open the B sample before January 10 next year.
If they do not intend to challenge Adamas’ decision through sample B, Ayub said Adamas will then set a date for the two athletes to give an explanation. – The Vibes, December 28, 2022
