KUALA LUMPUR – Aspiring young shuttlers from Johor will be flaunting their skills once again in the 2023 Johor Close badminton championship, which gets underway on January 5 to 8 at the DBC Sports Arena, Pontian.
This will be the 11th edition of the 2023 Johor Open badminton championship.
This championship is expected to have more than 600 badminton players across the nation participating in five categories, including under 21, under 16, under 14, under 12, and under 10.
According to Johor Badminton Association (JBA) president Mat Rasid Jahlil, the 2023 Johor Close Badminton Championship will mainly include players under the age of 21.
“The aim of the championship is to select players to represent Johor in a national-level competition as well as nurture them for the next few editions of the Malaysian Games (Sukma).
“Not only that, another objective of this championship is to gather as many players as possible in the state of Johor for them to play competitively,” he said.
Rasid said that this tournament is also a platform for them to evaluate and select players to represent the state of Johor at the national level. – The Vibes, January 3, 2023
