KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Ultra Running Association (Mura) would not issue a letter of acknowledgement to Malaysia Ultra Running, the organiser who held an unlicenced event called “Cinta Ultra” at Universiti Malaya last month, for their upcoming programmes.
Speaking to The Vibes, Mura president Toto Ong said due to an accident involving participant Chua Kah Yi on December 17, they would not be able to provide the letter as the case is classified as an ongoing police investigation.
“The organiser is also doing another event soon, but I would not provide any letter of acknowledgment to them because the ‘Cinta Ultra’ event is still under investigation,” Toto said.
The Vibes earlier reported that Kah Yi suffered a fractured ankle after getting hit by a motorist who allegedly possessed no driving license.
She has since lodged a police report against the organiser to claim relevant compensation.
At the same time, Sports Commissioner Ibrahim Mohd Yusof also revealed to The Vibes that the organiser conducted the race without a license.
Following Ibrahim’s comment, Toto confirmed that Malaysia Ultra Running had not sent in a request for a letter of acknowledgment to run the event.
“When we received their request, it was only after the event, which was already too late. By then the accident has happened.
“They also could not apply for a permit from the Sports Commissioner’s Office, which in turn would be unable to apply for insurance to cover any incidents,” explained Toto.
Moving forward with the case, Toto also noted that Mura will be meeting the Youth and Sports Ministry to discuss Kah Yi’s incident.
“We are going to meet with the ministry officials tomorrow.
“We would also like to voice out other concerns, which hopefully the ministry will be able to shed some light on,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Vibes’ effort to contact the organiser for a comment remain futile. – The Vibes, January 29, 2023.
