KUALA NERUS – The Terengganu Futsal Team (TFT) are targeting a top-four finish in Group A of the Malaysian Premier Futsal League which kicks off on Saturday.

TFT chief coach Mohd Rozairi Ahmad said despite a relatively short training period this season, he was optimistic of achieving this target because 60% of the players were experienced, having played in last year’s squad.

Apart from this, the squad will also be strengthened by Indonesian import Andika Sontoso and four local players with experience, namely former national player Akil Khalis Adli Khairus, Amirul Izzad Adang, and twins Mohd Hafiz and Mohd Hafizi Ismail.

“Last year we were seventh in the league but with a stronger squad this year we have the potential to finish in the top four and qualify for the knockout round of the Malaysian Futsal Cup.

“We did start (training) late but this is no excuse to just make up the numbers in the league,” he said after a training session at the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin futsal court here today.

Terengganu will open their campaign by hosting Kedah at the state stadium in Kuala Terengganu on Saturday. The others in Group A are Pahang Rangers, Malaysian Armed Forces, Sabah, Penang and KPT-PST Mustangs. – Bernama, February 14, 2023
