KUALA LUMPUR – Rising mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei is resolute to regain her top form ahead of the European leg next month following a disappointing feat at the recently-concluded Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Partnered with Chen Tang Jie, Ee Wei said they are determined to train hard with the remaining time that they have before departing for the German Open that is scheduled to be held on March 7-12 in Mulheim and the All England Open the following week.
“I think we need to mentally prepare ourselves these few weeks. It is important especially if we are facing a five-week tournament in Europe. We have to stay fit.
“Consistency on court is equally important and we need to improve on this,” she said when met during a training session at Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara, here today.
The 22-year-old shuttler added that they are also determined to secure a spot to compete at the Sudirman Cup, which will be held on May 14 to 21 in Suzhou, China.
The pair is expected to face tight competition with other doubles pair including two professional pairings, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai.
Meanwhile, Ee Wei described their debut at the BAMTC in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, last week as an exciting experience even though the team lost in the quarterfinals to China, 3-2.
“We have done our best going against China, but no luck,” she said.
At the tournament, Tang Jie-Ee Wei played in two matches of Group B where they assisted the national squad to thrash Kazakhstan, 5-0, by defeating Makhsut Tadzhibullaev-Aisha Zhumabek, 21-9, 21-10.
However, in the final match of Group B, they lost to Ishaan Bhatnagar-Tanisha Crast, 19-21, 21-19, 16-21, leaving India to beat Malaysia, 4-1. – The Vibes, February 21, 2023
