KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) said the issues raised by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii regarding its training structure have been resolved.
The national badminton governing body in a statement said that Dr Yii had contacted BAM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria for an explanation on BAM’s training programme.
“YB (Dr Yii) clarified that his views were taken out of context. He was only giving advice to a few parents with regards to their children’s future.
“Following their discussion today (yesterday) Tan Sri Norza and Dr Kelvin consider the matter resolved,” according to BAM’s statement posted on social media last night.
Yesterday, news portal DayakDaily reported that Dr Yii warned children and parents to think twice before pursuing their badminton dream with BAM, claiming that many senior and junior shuttlers received termination for non-performance.
He was quoted as saying that those who chose to stop the training programme with BAM, would have to pay RM30,000 in compensation, which he said does not protect the players’ interests. – Bernama, March 28, 2023
