KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai were no match for top-seeded Chinese duo Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong as they lost 21-11, 21-13 at the Badminton Asia Championships today.

Having won all 10 of their previous encounters, the All England champions from China made quick work of the eighth-seeded Malaysian pair and won the first set in just 10 minutes at the Al Nasr Club in Dubai.

The second set proved to be more of the same with the independent Malaysians struggling to fight their way back as Siwei-Yaqiong sealed the win in 25 minutes.

The last time the pairs met was at the India Open in January, where the Malaysians lost in the first round.

The Chinese duo will now battle for the title against either Indonesia’s Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja or compatriots Jian Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin in the finals tomorrow. – The Vibes, April 29, 2023
