KUALA LUMPUR – Badminton starlet Justin Hoh is taking his time to recover from a serious injury that derailed his chance to compete at the recent Cambodia SEA Games.

Justin suffered an Achilles tendon rupture in April while he was training for the Games.

The 19-year-old was touted as a medal prospect in Phnom Penh until he suffered the injury which will keep him out until the end of the year.

The world number 58 had surgery a day after suffering the injury and has been in rehabilitation ever since.

“I feel a bit better now, I’m following the programme... but I must wait until I’m fully recovered to be on court.

“I have just started rehab and have been focused on taking care of myself,” said Justin when met at Akademi Badminton Malaysia yesterday.

Justin is happy to be patient in his recovery due to the serious nature of the injury that he suffered.

“I can’t rush my recovery; this injury is very serious... I need to be patient and wait until I have fully recovered to return to action.

“It is estimated that I can be on court in two months, and it will be another four months before I can fully follow my normal training routine.

“I have spoken to my coach, and we are targeting a return to competition around November or December.

“There will be tournaments for me to play in then, but I also need to assess my physical condition,” added Justin, who joined the senior ranks in November last year.

He also said he was not too concerned about a possible tumble down the rankings.

“My ranking won’t drop too much if I make my return around November or December, I only need to be in the top 80 to play in Super Series 300 tournaments... so I’m not too worried about it,” he said. – The Vibes, June 17, 2023
