KUALA LUMPUR – Three Malaysian doubles pairs including Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun today advanced to the Taipei Open semi-finals.
Malaysia are guaranteed a spot in the men’s doubles final as top seeds Yew Sin-Ee Yi will lock horns with fifth seeds Wei Chong-Kai Wun in the last four tomorrow at the Tian-Mu Arena, University of Taipei.
In today’s quarter-finals, Yew Sin-Ee Yi came from behind to dispose of Taiwan’s Lee Fang-chih-Lee Fang-jen 15-21, 21-19, 21-17.
In their quarter-final, Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who were runners-up at this year’s Malaysia Masters, took 32 minutes to stun fourth seeds Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan of Taiwan 21-19, 21-19.
Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also made it to the mixed doubles semi-finals by triumphing over home duo Yang Po-hsuan-Hu Ling-fang 21-15, 21-14.
The fourth seeds will face another Taiwanese pair, Ye Hong-wei-Lee Chia-hsin, who prevented an all-Malaysian semi-final by ousting Hoo Pang Ron-Teoh Mei Xing 21-18, 21-14. – Bernama, June 23, 2023
