KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s singles ace K. Letshanaa regards her sparring partner Wong Ling Ching as her main threat in her quest to win the 2023 National Badminton Championships after top seed Goh Jin Wei had decided to withdraw from the competition.

The 2023 Uganda International Challenge winner said if she were to face Ling Ching, who is the third seed in the tournament, she will certainly have some inside knowledge of how she plays as both have been training under coach K. Yogendran since May.

“I was expecting Jin Wei to be my main threat if we meet in the final, but unfortunately Jin Wei had decided to withdraw from the competition.

“However, I will continue to focus on the competition and not make any predictions well ahead of the competition.

“After Jin Wei’s withdrawal, I feel Ling Ching will be the main contender, because both of us train together everyday and know each other’s game well,” she told reporters at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara, here today.

In the second round of the competition today, Letshanaa who is competing under the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) banner, disposed of Johor’s Dania Sofea Zaidi in straight sets 21-8, 21-14.

In tomorrow’s third round encounter, Letshanaa, the second seed in the competition, will face Teh Won Quin from Selangor.

Meanwhile, Lin Ching, who is also representing BAM, swept aside Ooi Yu Han from Kedah 21-9, 21-12 in straight sets to set up a date with Nilasha Kalishavaran from Selangor in the third round. – Bernama, July 5, 2023
