THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is in the process of obtaining documents related to its investigation into the encroachment of state land in Raub, Pahang, where large areas have allegedly been cleared for durian cultivation.
In a statement, the MACC’s Strategic Communications Division said the documents were necessary for further analysis and to assist in recording witness statements.
“The MACC has also identified several individuals who have become settlers in the affected area,” the statement said.
Earlier media reports indicated that the MACC had already compiled a list of individuals believed to be involved in the illegal occupation of the land.
Last Thursday, the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, expressed shock upon being informed that 10,521 hectares (26,000 acres) of land in Raub had been encroached upon over several decades for the purpose of planting durian trees.
The issue has previously sparked controversy, with enforcement operations in Raub drawing backlash from growers, who were reportedly dissatisfied after their crops were destroyed. - May 10, 2025
