PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has called on party members in Sarawak to view the current political landscape as a strategic opportunity to regroup and invest in the party’s long-term strength, particularly through the development of emerging leaders.
“This low point in our political cycle is a good time for us to invest in the party’s future. Use this period to develop new talent, because the cycle will turn and our time will come,” he said during the *Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa* (HIRUK) Tour programme held last night.
Acknowledging Sarawakians’ present inclination towards the state government, Rafizi stressed the importance of preparing for future political shifts, with a focus on organisational renewal and leadership grooming within the state chapter.
Reflecting on past electoral performances, Rafizi highlighted PKR’s continued hold on Miri — a seat the party has retained for three consecutive general elections since 2013 — and pointed to other parliamentary constituencies as promising prospects.
“Miri is indeed our stronghold here in Sarawak, but there are also two or three other parliamentary constituencies with real potential,” he said, naming Kanowit, Selangau, and Puncak Borneo as areas to watch.
He further noted that PKR had previously held the Selangau and Puncak Borneo parliamentary seats, and had come close to victory in Kanowit during the 15th General Election (GE15).
Rafizi added that attention must be paid to the voices of PKR members in Sarawak following the party election on 23 May, particularly in ensuring the party remains politically relevant in the state. - May 18, 2025
