THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have launched an investigation into a viral TikTok video featuring a man identified as “Chegubard”, allegedly delivering a public address containing seditious remarks against the royal institution.

The video was uploaded via the TikTok account @4mrankiamat and detected on 4 September 2025. Investigations are being led by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (D5), Criminal Investigation Department, Bukit Aman.

According to police, the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. These laws relate to incitement, causing public mischief, and misuse of network facilities, respectively.

The suspect, aged 47, was arrested at approximately 10.25pm on 5 September. A remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was filed the following day.

“PDRM will take firm action without compromise against any party who deliberately makes or spreads seditious statements that could provoke public unrest or disrupt social harmony in Malaysia,” said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar in a statement today.

On Monday, it was reported that the  Port Dickson Bersatu Division Chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin also known as Chegubard, had been released on police bail after giving a statement regarding allegations of sedition and defamation related to a political speech he delivered in Bagan Serai, Perak, on September 1.

The update was shared by Chegubard himself in a Facebook post yesterday.

"I was released at around 2.30pm yesterday. I was brought before a magistrate after the police applied for a four-day remand. However, the application was objected to by my lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.

"In the end, the magistrate rejected the remand request at about 11am, and I was subsequently released on police bail after having my statement recorded," he wrote. - Sept 8, 2025
