AN entertainment venue in Sungai Way was found to be offering foreign hostesses via WhatsApp bookings before escorting them to the premises, according to Selangor immigration authorities following a raid on Thursday night.

In the operation led by the Selangor branch of the Immigration Department (JIM), 30 women from Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, aged between 18 and 40, were arrested for allegedly working illegally as guest relations officers (GROs) in breach of their visitor visas.

Selangor Immigration Director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said the women had entered Malaysia on social visit passes but were believed to have misused their entry permits to engage in illicit employment.

“They were brought in by agents from their home countries, provided accommodation, and placed directly at the premises,” Khairrul said in a statement on Friday.

He added that the women were believed to be living on-site, and that the modus operandi of the business involved supplying GROs through WhatsApp orders to clients at the entertainment venue.

Some of the women reportedly attempted to flee or hide during the operation, which began at 10pm, but were swiftly located and apprehended by immigration enforcement teams.

“All detainees are suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, and Immigration Regulations 1963,” said Khairrul.

The women have since been transferred to the Semenyih Immigration Depot in Kajang for further investigation and legal action. - September 26, 2025
