MALAYSIA  Airlines Berhad (MAS) currently has no aircraft grounded as a result of technical faults, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah told Parliament on Thursday.

He clarified that any aircraft not in service are undergoing routine maintenance in line with aviation safety requirements and industry standards.

“Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) also operates as a commercial entity, with all operational decisions, including aircraft maintenance and repair, taken at the corporate level based on the company’s operational needs,” he explained during a parliamentary session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

“Repair and maintenance costs are fully borne by MAG as part of operational expenditure. The Ministry of Transport does not cover any associated costs,” he added.

Hasbi also disclosed that the country currently has 4,113 aircraft engineers who are certified and recognised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

He emphasised that the government will continue to monitor developments in the aviation sector, strengthen cooperation with training institutions and the private sector, and implement strategic initiatives to ensure the safety and efficiency of the nation’s aviation operations. - November 20, 2025
