PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is facing escalating internal turmoil as its Larut and Lembah Pantai divisions officially dissolved with effect from last night, citing a loss of confidence in party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following the recent dismissal of several senior leaders.
In video recordings shared on Bersatu’s official Facebook page, leaders of both divisions confirmed the unprecedented move, describing it as a collective decision after widespread dissatisfaction among local party ranks.
Larut deputy chief Mohd Noh Md Daud explained that the decision was made after consultation with leaders across all levels within the division.
A total of 48 branches under the Larut division have declared the dissolution of Bersatu Larut after losing confidence in the party leadership under Muhyiddin.
This was further reinforced by the sacking of deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Larut division chief Mohd Hassundi Hamzah,” he said.
Mohd Azurin Abdul Wahab, Larut’s information chief, added that the entire divisional leadership and committee members had resolved to leave the party due to what they described as internal turmoil and a perceived loss of direction.
“I, together with the committee and branch chiefs, have lost confidence in Muhyiddin,” he stated, noting that the dismissals of Hamzah and Mohd Hassundi marked a turning point for the division.
In Lembah Pantai, division chief Datuk Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said the dissolution was voluntary, with formal notification to be submitted to Bersatu headquarters.
“We thank Bersatu for the opportunity given, and InsyaAllah, we will continue to serve the local community in our own way, through non-governmental organisations and other platforms. We wish the party well and apologise. InsyaAllah, we will meet again,” he said.
The move comes shortly after Bersatu dismissed Hamzah Zainudin and 16 other senior figures, including MPs, assemblymen, and divisional leaders, among them Supreme Council member and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, as well as Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, Sungai Manik assemblyman and party council member.
The dissolution of two divisions signals a deepening rift within Bersatu, raising questions over the party’s cohesion and its ability to maintain influence within Perikatan Nasional amid ongoing leadership disputes. - February 15, 2025
