King confers appointments on 14 senior judges in Istana Negara ceremony

HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia presided over a formal investiture ceremony granting instruments of appointment to 14 judges across the superior courts, marking a significant strengthening of the country’s judiciary.

The ceremony took place at Istana Negara today, where the King personally conferred appointments on two Federal Court judges, six Court of Appeal judges and six High Court judges.

Those elevated to the Federal Court of Malaysia were Datuk Ravinthran N Paramaguru and Datuk Azmi Ariffin, the highest tier of judicial office in the country.

Six judges were appointed to the Court of Appeal of Malaysia: Datuk Amarjeet Singh Serjit Singh, Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Harun, Datuk Aliza Sulaiman, Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh, Dean Wayne Daly and Datuk Seri Latifah Mohd Tahar.

A further six received appointments to the High Court of Malaya, namely Dr Suzana Mohd Said, Yusrin Faidz Yusoff, Arziah Mohamed Apandi, Datuk Hafizah Kassim, Gan Techiong and Suriyati Hasimah Mohd Hashim.

The investiture was held in the Dewan Singgahsana Kecil, the royal audience chamber within the palace, in accordance with constitutional procedures governing judicial appointments.

Among those in attendance were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Also present were Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, Court of Appeal President Abu Bakar Jais, Chief Judge of Malaya Hashim Hamzah, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Azizah Nawawi, and Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.

The appointments underscore ongoing efforts to reinforce judicial capacity and uphold the administration of justice at the highest levels of Malaysia’s legal system. - April 21, 2026
