SELANGOR’S dams can continue to meet the state’s water supply needs for up to three months even if the current hot and dry weather persists without rainfall, state executive councillor Datuk Ir Izham Hashim said.
The Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman said reservoir levels remained under control despite a slight decline, particularly at Sungai Langat Dam, which is currently at about 78 per cent capacity.
“The decline at Sungai Langat Dam is normal. The same thing happened two months ago, but, God willing, it will be full again.
“However, the other dams in Selangor are still above the 85 per cent level,” he said when met at the 2026 Karnival Bendang at Parit 2 Timur in Sabak Bernam on Saturday.
Izham said even relatively small amounts of rainfall would help prolong the resilience of Selangor’s water supply.
He added that when other sources, including off-river storage, were taken into account, the state’s overall water supply could last even longer.
Commenting on the carnival, Izham said about 5,000 visitors were expected to attend the second edition of the event, which features 25 programmes aimed at reviving the spirit of cooperation and unity among paddy-growing communities.
He said the carnival returned for a second year following the encouraging response to its inaugural edition last year.
