A MAN in Singapore who was unhappy that his four-year-old son had lied after defecating, forced the tip of a chilli into the little boy’s mouth to discipline him.

However, according to reports by CNA, the object got lodged in the boy’s airway and he choked to death despite efforts by his father who rushed him to a clinic.

The 38-year-old father was then sentenced to eight months in jail for one count of rash act causing death.

The defence lawyer had earlier successfully asked for a gag order to cover the victim and the accused as the man had other children.

The man lived in a flat with his wife and four children, including the victim.

Reports said the boy was going through toilet training at the time and was supposed to inform his parents if he wanted to relieve himself.

An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was “acute airway obstruction by the foreign body”.

A piece of chilli, measuring 10mm by 15mm by 8mm, was firmly lodged in the boy’s airway.

District judge Ong Hian Sun said this was “indeed a sad case”. – June 1, 2024
