EGYPT has confirmed that it will host an emergency Arab Summit on March 4 to discuss the reconstruction of Gaza following the devastating conflict in the region.

The summit, initially scheduled for February 27, was postponed to allow for further logistical preparations, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The new date was set in coordination with Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League, and after consultations with other Arab nations, Bernama-Anadolu reported

The summit comes in the wake of a controversial proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump to take control of Gaza and resettle its Palestinian population, with plans to transform the region into what he described as “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

The proposal was widely criticized by Arab states and the international community, with many condemning it as an attempt at ethnic cleansing.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi confirmed on Sunday that his government is preparing a comprehensive plan to rebuild Gaza while ensuring that the Palestinian inhabitants remain in place. The region, which has endured a brutal conflict, saw a ceasefire come into effect on January 19, after nearly 48,300 Palestinians—many of them women and children—were killed, and the enclave was left in ruins.
